To have certification or not?

July 26, 2008

How important is training? How important is certificate after training? What would be the benefit of training. I have some friends who ask that question. Most of them who ask that are those newly graduates, or those who are new on the career world. I myself ask that question some years ago. I do not understand why would one need trainings if he have learned the basics on the school he graduated. Why would one need certification if he is good enough and talented, and have learned a lot through work experience.

First of all, I would like to say that I am a programmer. As a programmer, I at least know what are the bad side of having an inexperience employee. Let us say on network and security administration. This is a very sensitive job because on a multi-national company (MNC), most hackers would try to break in and see how secured their systems are. And for having so many employees and computers, there might be one or more who would break the company rules. Now, if you are the owner of the company, would you want to hire someone who is inexperience? Or maybe should I ask, who do you prefer, someone who has Cisco certification and training, or someone who at least know what security is.

As years pass, I have known more and more IT people. Those with certification really got better jobs and company perks than those who has no training or certification. And if you check on the newspaper ads or on the Internet, big companies wants those people who had undergone training. Now choose what path you want.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

July 25, 2008

I have a hard time getting pregnant. I have a “Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome” (PCOS). Women with irregular menstruation are known to have this PCOS.

According to Wiki, PCOS is “the most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age, and is a leading cause of infertility.[2][3] The principal features are weight problems, lack of regular ovulation and/or menstruation, and excessive amounts or effects of androgenic (masculinizing) hormones. The symptoms and severity of the syndrome vary greatly between women. While the causes are unknown, insulin resistance, diabetes and obesity are all strongly correlated with PCOS.”

Someone had sent me an email regarding PCOS. She was asking how I get pregnant. She was having the same problem with me, how to get pregnant. I was happy to share to her how my OB had helped me. So I am sharing to all people by posting here the “routine” the OB had made with us.

Here is how I get pregnant, with my OB’s instructions:

Step 1: Take drug to menstruate. This would just simple make you menstruate. You and your OB would not like to wait for months to do the next step.

Step 2: After a few days (I forgot, 5 days I think) take Clomid. Clomid helps to make women ovulate.

Step 3: After a few days (I forgot again) I should have ovulated. I have an sched with my OB to check if I ovulated through ultrasound.

Step 4: I did not ovulate. On the ultrasound result…”with __ numbers of follicles”. If I do ovulate, the result should be something like… “with one mature follicle”. The mature follicle, that’s the egg that have successfully ovulated. OB said to take the drug to make me menstruate again. So back to Step 1.

After a round on Step 1, my OB told me to increase my Clomid intake. After a few more rounds. My OB said to take Clomid with Metformin. Metformin is a drug for diabetes which has a side-effect. It’s side-effect? It makes woman ovulate. Now, that’s a nice side-effect. After a round with Metformin, I still did not ovulate. So this time, my OB told me to increase my Metformin intake. Then I get pregnant.

And by the way, after Step 4 and I didn’t ovulate, my OB told me to do Step 1. There’s no need to wait for weeks. My self-made reason: “What would I wait for? I didn’t ovulate. Those follicles are now useless. Better flush them up. And so I can take Clomid (and Metformin) so try if I will ovulate again.

I know many women does have the same problem with me. I was newbie then with this PCOS thing. I really don’t understand everything. So I do some research of my own even when I’m checking with my OB. I want to make sure that my OB is doing right.

And another thing, my OB said that women who have goiter would have problem on ovulating.

I hope this post helps you understand on how actually the treatment goes. If you are newly married and you have irregular menstruation, more likely you would have the same problem I have before. So after trying to conceive for about 6 months and you failed, you can check an OB for help. OBs usually say that they consider couples to have problems on having a baby after a month. But with that situation, it is sure that you would have a hard time getting pregnant. Or you might not get pregnant at all if you don’t see an OB. So don’t waste your time. I think I went to my OB after 6.

Hope I have helped a lot. I would be happy to hear some comments from you guys.

Wonbi-D for me…

July 24, 2008

A few days ago, afternoon after lunch, I was feeling dizzy at work… really dizzy. Then the other day morning, my mother-in-law gave me a box of I think are food supplements. I’m not really sure what they are. I’m not sure if they are food supplements or energy drink. It’s a box with 10 bottles. And a box costs 300 PHP.

At the office, I quickly search on about the food supplement, or whatever it is. I can’t understand what the bottle and box label and description says. Everything is in Korean language!

Okay, here’s what it is…

WONBI-D Vitamins of Il-Yang Pharm.

1 bottle(100ml) contains Ginseng, Lycium Fruit ,Vit.B6, Vit.B2 , other 3 kinds of Vitamin

Supplement and improvement of hepatic function, tonic, recovery of fatigue, weak constitution

It is an energy drink. But my boss told me that energy boosters does “boost” you to your limit. You’ll fell strong. But after that, when you stop drinking them, you’ll feel weak. That is because your body and mind is relying on that energy booster. If you drink everyday, that means that you do all the work without feeling tired most of the time. But actually, your body is tired. You just have the energy to go on and on. When the booster’s effect is gone, the your body would then feel the fatigue.

But Wonbi-D has no caffeine. All of the said ingredients are nutritions to our body. I’m not sure how my body would react if I stop drinking the Wonbi-D vitamins. But as of my I have experience, maybe I’m still sleepy, but I still gets going. Maybe it’s because of Wonbi-D.

Alzheimer’s… Join for a cause…

July 22, 2008

One of the diseases that has no cure yet is Alzheimer disease, or simply called Alzheimer’s. We always hear AIDS as incurable, AIDS is deadly, and so forth. But we all know how people got AIDS. Alzheimer’s? Scientists has not yet discovered what actually causes that disease. What is just known is that it is related to the brain. People just get it with no reason at all.

I have heard a friend who have a family member having Alzheimer’s. First, the memory lost. The old man has been forgetful of some simple things first. Then lately, without his family’s knowing, he actually forgets who his love ones are. Then maybe because of old age and the disease, he had also felt neglected and alone. He also felt stressful even by just walking a short distance inside their house.

I don’t want to have a disease that would make me forget my love ones. My family is my most true treasure. And in times of illness, the only people that I would think of are my family. They would be giving me the strength to go on, or at least be happy. With a disease that would give you memory loss, how would feel the love and care your family would give you?

Join Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. Support the unfortunate people who got the incurable disease. How them your concern. Create a team and have a walk to let them know that they are not alone, that there are other people who care about their condition. Team up with your family and friends, and invite others too. Get involved and touch other people’s life. You know that Alzheimer’s is not an ordinary disease. So extend your help, even by just walking.

My money goes to…

Jean told me to keep track of expenses, our family expenses. Hi Jean. I’m pasting your comment here for safe-keeping. Binabalikan ko kasi mga posts ko minsan pag masama ang loob ko. I do read my old posts :)

Jean says…

Kami rin ganon. We didn’t track (and I didn’t do this when I was single either) our expenses until months into our marriage and we started wondering where our money was going.

All the while, we both think that we live frugally but the money just disappears! So we started tracking, we keep an excel spreadsheet (downloaded one from Pear Budget before, pwede ko share if you like) and we tracked our expenses by category - dining out, groceries, activities, his & mine, home expenses, maintenance, etc. Ayun. Ang lakas pala namin mag eat out and we spend a lot on activities (buying gear or specialty clothing / equipment).

Try nyo i keep track, maski for a few months lang para ma pinpoint nyo yung mga areas na pwede tipirin, if meron. Kung wala na kayong matitipid pang areas, then alam nyong you’re doing the best that you could and yung best step is to go out & look for additional sources of income na.

Good luck :) Let me know if you want me to send you the budget spreadsheet.

I do keep track my expenses before I’m married. I only keep track when I feel I’m eating and expending too much. At the start of the day that I’m married, lahat gastos!

Here’s the reasons, one reason after another…

  • After getting married, my hubby’s earnings is so small. And he even had three months straight without earning anything.
  • His earnings has increase, but I’m seeing an OB to get pregnant. Lot’s of expenses on medicines and ultrasounds. And I do still help on other expenses.
  • When I get pregnant, my first trimester is hell! I got blood for about three weeks. I was sent to the hospital and stayed there for three days. I took medicines for my baby. I stayed home for two months. So I wasn’t able to help hubby on all the expenses.
  • December 2007, I’m still on my leave, recovering… playing Diablo II for about an hour or two. I felt dizzy. I also do blogging. And that time, I found out that I can earn from my blog. I’m actually trying on how much time I can stay on the computer before I get dizzy and waisted. It’s December and I was planning to get back to work on the next month. I was back at work on January 16. I also started earning money online.
  • Check up, vitamins, ultrasounds…
  • Now, have expenses on my baby
Other expenses that uses cash. When it’s cash, it’s from my salary or from my online earnings.

  • car gasoline. well not always.
  • water bill
  • LPG tank
  • everyday food and groceries

Parents-in-law’s “enjoyment”. Expenses I can’t control. But if I can, I don’t want to have those expenses.

  • Gifts to my brother-in-law’s two daughters on their birthdays. When one has a gift, the other should have one too. And they spend 500 PHP each for each kid.
  • When mother-in-law give gifts to some of their relatives on China. Not too much but it is still considered a cost.
  • The hmmm ancestor home in China. Someone from China would say they we (I mean they) need to contribute for the repair or beautification, they would. I really really really hate that idea.
  • Mother-in-law was playing mahjong before I gave birth. It’s a small amount of bet. But it’s still expenses.

Thanks Jean for offering the software. But I don’t think I can ever use it. I would want too. But my hubby might think that I’m controlling my money. And my mother-in-law is taking care of my baby while I’m at work (I have another issue about this. It would be on my another post.) So I guess I should be thankful about it and just let them have their extra expenses. Let them be happy.

But starting next month, I should be planning on…

  • my baby’s future. maybe opening a kiddie account.
  • an educational plan?
  • my SSS and Philhealth, maybe I have to start contributing. This serves as my insurance.

So much expenses, so little to save. I should compute my online income instead and save some of them I guess.

Advertise on Blogs

July 18, 2008

Nowadays, advertising through blogs is in. Why? Lots of interested people are looking for the things they like and need on the Internet. And blog is a powerful tool for advertising. Many online searching tools point searches to blogs. A what is good about blogs is that people do leave comments if they like what they see. So when you advertise on a blog, you get extra automatic credits of having other consumers’ comments just for your company.

And how much does it cost to advertise on blogs? Advertising on blogs is called “advertise on budget“. You know how much it is worth advertising in the newspaper. You know how much it cost advertising on televisions and radios. But most companies can not actually advertise on televisions, radios and even in newspaper. But on blogs, you can. With just a budgeted amount of fee, you get to advertise to a lot of blogs. And blogs do have readers. And those readers usually are interested on new things and ideas. And they usually check out the links they see that are new to them. So, it is actually worth it.

If you want to try to advertise your goods and services on blogs, you might want to check out http://www.bloggersreview.com.

So, she’s not too bad after all…

I have blogged about “her”, my hubby’s brother’s wife, on http://berryblitz79.blogspot.com/2007/06/hate-that-wont-heal-in-me.html. She’s the one who wore the sleeveless shirt and maong shorts on the picture on that blog post.

I hate her for ruining our picture. I hate her for hating my husband. I know she has a reason to hate him. But why hate him. He is not her husband. What did my husband do to her.

My mother says that she is a good person, that it’s my husband and his parents who are “different”. And so, maybe it’s true. I know I’m too good to my husband. I told him that as long as he is earning something, that he is happy, then I don’t care how much he earns a month, as long as his earnings plus earnings can buy us food, provide good shelter to us, education to our child, and maybe some savings.

I think… “Tanga talaga ako. I love my husband so much. I want a good relationship with my parents-in-law. I provide money to them.” I think I better save some for myself. Or I guess I can start saving money by opening a kiddie account for my son as early as next month.

My mother is right. She is not that bad after all. I have just talked to her the past few days. My husband and I went and visit her to see her new born son. And I’m happy to know that she doesn’t hate me.

House Repaint

I have bumped into a site where they offer house painting jobs done by interns. Interns meaning students. Well, do not be afraid that your house would get dirty paint jobs. They are of course supervised. And hey, they are students, meaning, they have learned the painting job on schools. That would be a nice touch to your house. At least you are sure that those people painting your house have actually the knowledge of how to paint a house the “right way”.

And painting jobs really does cost a lot! But collegeworks.com does it fare and even has a great customer service. But for me, one of the best thing getting their service is helping more students gain experience. You get it at one bang. Your house gets repainted with quality, you get good customer support, and you help students. Go check
http://mysite.verizon.net/cwp286/collegeworkspainting/index.html
for their painting job.

Need a house repaint? Let collegeworkspainting.com do their job for you.
